Daniel Matchain | Classical Guitarist

From a very young age, I discovered a profound connection with music, specifically with the classical guitar. What began as simple curiosity quickly transformed into a passion that has defined my life. I have dedicated over five years to the study and performance of music, finding along this path not just a vocation, but a form of expression and personal growth.

I had the privilege of training at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, first in their Pre-College program (2017-2021) under Scott Cmiel, and later in the collegiate program (2022-2024) under the guidance of David Tanenbaum. During those years, I not only refined my technique and artistic sensitivity but also had the opportunity to participate in recitals, ensembles, and masterclasses with renowned guitarists such as David Russell and Sergio Assad. Each of those experiences was a seed that strengthened my love for the guitar and my desire to share it with others.

My time at Anzar High School coincided with the early years of this musical adventure, and it was there I began to understand that music was not just a hobby, but a life path. Since graduating, I have continued my training both on and off the stage. Most recently, I have begun a new chapter as a teaching assistant and luthier apprentice with Anthony DeMers. In this role, I have learned to teach students of all ages and levels, while immersing myself in the art of building and repairing guitars—a process that has connected me even more deeply with the instrument.

Public speaking, collaborating with other musicians, and teamwork have become essential skills in my daily life. Being bilingual in English and Spanish has opened doors for me to communicate with and teach a broader audience. While my professional goal remains to grow within the world of music, I also seek to actively contribute to the artistic community while saving to continue my university studies.

The guitar has taught me discipline, patience, and passion. But above all, it has taught me to listen: to others, to the world, and to myself. This is just one part of my story, one that continues to be written with every chord I play.
